The Saginaw News: Gratiot judge to retire

February 6, 2008

ITHACA -- After more than two decades on the bench, Gratiot County District Court Judge James Mackie is retiring when his term expires Dec. 31.

Then-Gov. James Blanchard appointed Mackie to the bench in 1986. Voters subsequently elected him to three six-year terms.

Mackie earned his law degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1970. He worked in private practice in Alma for 16 years.

To date, three attorneys -- Nancy Gallagher, 49, of Alma, Stewart McDonald, 53, of Alma and Eric St. Onge, 35, of St. Louis -- have announced they will seek the post.
